Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley
After falling head over heels for The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society last year, I've been on the hunt for more books about book lovers. Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley is everything I was looking for. It's got second chance romance in a secondhand bookshop. It's got snarky characters and love letters tucked in books. Literary references abound, some of which are my very favorites (everything from P&P and Great Expectations to Neil Gaiman's American Gods), and some of which have been sitting on my TBR cart, like this Penguin edition of Shakespeare's Memory with butterflies on the cover, which Henry describes, and which I recognized immediately as one of my own secondhand book finds! Words in Deep Blue is a love letter to books and the people who read them, and I can't wait to revisit it in the future.
