Stamped Book Club
"How do you stop an age old negotiation with whiteness? How do you rewrite the contract?"

Today I watched as Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, Jason Reynolds, and Hannah Oliver Depp came together for a second week to discuss race, the classroom, and Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You, the book that Kendi authored and Reynolds adapted for young adults. This book, which I listened to earlier this year, reinforced the importance of talking about race in the classroom, and of the importance of listening and learning as I work to combat my own racist ideas. In this session, among other things, Depp talked about the ways in which black people make themselves small in order to make white people feel comfortable, which reminded me of so many conversations I've had since learning about the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery. These webinars, which are happening every Wednesday this month, have been one of the amazing things born of this quarantine, and I'm so excited to tune in each week. I think you can still sign up (you don't have to have read either of these books to listen!) And I've put the link in my bio if you're interested.

"We all have a lot to learn. The conversation is always evolving. And we would all be better off if we were willing to say I don't know, but I'm gonna try to figure it out together with you."
