Brain on Fire by Susannah Cahalan
Today's #ThrowbookThursday might sound familiar, even if you haven't read it. That's because Cahalan's follow up project, The Great Pretender, was published late last year and took the boon world by storm. Brain on Fire was her first book. Here were my thoughts when I first read it!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Susannah is 24 when she begins spiraling into psychosis without any obvious explanation. It's a reminder of how unknowable the mind remains, even to the best and brightest in the medical field, and of the toll that mental illness can have on a person's identity and autonomy. I read it in hours, but it stayed with me for weeks.
