Universal Harvester by John Darnielle

In another life (when I used to blog!) I followed an amazing blog called Outlandish Lit. Julianne gave the BEST weird book recommendations and I discovered so many reads, including John Darnielle's first book, Wolf in White Van. If Darnielle's name sounds familiar, it's probably because he's the head musician of The Mountain Goats! Wolf in White Van is a story told in reverse chronological order (I'll be posting my review of it tomorrow for Throwbook Thursday!), so I figured that Universal Harvester would be an experiment in form, too - and I was right. It's got multiple timelines, creepy vibes, and a set of VHS tapes that have been mysteriously altered. I alternated reading and listening to this (the audio is narrated by the author - my favorite kind) and while I can't say that I fully understood this book, I know that I enjoyed reading it. If you're looking for a quick read that's totally out of your comfort zone, I'd recommend checking this one out!
