Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

What happens to Alice when she returns from Wonderland? Or Lucy, from Narnia? How do you go back to before once you've seen what lies beyond the door? It's this question that drives Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire, which begins the Wayward Children series. Every Heart follows Nancy, who is brought to Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children by her parents after returning to this world different from the way she left it. Needless to say I was hooked, and listened to the short audiobook (4 hours) in a single day. I enjoyed this novella and think that it's important because of the groundwork that it lays, but I've already listened to the second book in the series, Down Among the Sticks and Bones, and loved it even more. Obviously I will be continuing to read the series; keep an eye out for my review of book two next week!
