The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner was BY FAR the most recommended book for me to take on my lake weekend a few weeks ago, so I knew it was going to be good. What I didn’t know was that it was going to make me cry all. the. tears. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Based on the jacket description, I thought it was going to be super cult-y, but that wasn’t the direction that it went in at all. This book is about friendship, and small town life. It’s about growing up. It’s about leaving and being left. It’s a book I’m glad exists because I know there are so many out there who need it. I’m already excited to pick up the other Zentner book I’ve got on my TBR: Goodbye Days! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ TW: depression, suicidal ideation, homophobia, incarceration, domestic abuse, loss of a loved one, grief ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: I’m holding a hardcover copy of The Serpent King up against a wood fence. There’s a rusted wire fence, too, and ivy growing up both of them. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CQlXaSerHpp/
