The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez begins with a true rom-com meet cute, which I could not love more! After Sloane unexpectedly ends up caring for Jason’s dog, Tucker, the two find themselves drawn together against Sloane’s better judgement. Jason is a swoony musician who falls hard and fast for Sloane, but Sloane isn’t sure she’s ready to move on in the aftermath of her fiancĂ©’s death. The book deals with grief, but also with the price of fame, the brutal demands of touring and making a record, and with finding love after loss. I loved the song pairings with each chapter, the network of family and friends, and the author’s note, where Jiminez explains the book is a tribute to a dear friend struggling with loss. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ TW: complicated grief/bereavement, loss of a partner, panic attacks, sexual harassment ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: I’m holding up a kindle displaying the ebook cover of The Happy Ever After Playlist.
