I’m here to spill the tea about Love at First by Kate Clayborn and it’s this: it’s not really a second chance romance (which is probably why I adore it)! Nora and Will very nearly meet when they’re teens, and definitely do meet as adults; when Will inherits (and is determined to sell) the apartment belonging to his estranged uncle, he discovers that Nora, along with a building full of eccentric longtime residents, is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her community from outsiders. This heartbreakingly sweet enemies to lovers romance had me rooting for this couple from day one, and had me swooning over everything from poetry readings (hi, Mary Oliver) to shower rods. I love love love a narrative where the setting is like a character, and this building full of found family definitely qualifies. If you loved Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne, you’ll love the similar vibes of Love at First! This is my second Kate Clayborn novel and I love the way that she balances her narratives with really tough conversations - in this case, overcoming loss and neglect. “You don’t have to love the same way you were loved.” 😭 I’ll definitely be picking up more of her books in the future, but in the meantime, I’ll continue flailing about the ones I’ve already read! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ TW: childhood neglect, death of a parent ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: I’m holding a kindle displaying the ebook cover of Love at First.
