I bought The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo because I teach The Great Gatsby and wanted to figure out how I could incorporate this queer, Asian retelling into my plans. I was drawn in by the language and the fantastical elements but then life happened, as it so often does, and I put it away to be revisited. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fast forward eight months and here we are. I’m not teaching Gatsby, because I’m not teaching anything at the moment. Life is unexpected. But every time I look at this photo in my drafts, it makes me sad that I never shared it (I usually wait to finish a book first) because it’s so beautiful! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Can we all take a moment to appreciate this book cover?! Art by Greg Ruth Design by Christine Foltzer ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Cover design is a HUGE consideration in book buying for me, and yet I almost never recognize the artists behind the covers. Upon googling the designer I discovered she is responsible for a ton of covers I love. Do you have a favorite cover or artist? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID 1: A hardcover copy of The Chosen and the Beautiful lays on a circular wood table. A wood stool is visible in the background. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID 2: The same book lays on the same table at a different angle, half in and half out of a ray of sunlight. A cup of iced coffee is visible in the background. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CazqPFZLy6Q/
