The Lady Gets Lucky is the second book in The Fifth Avenue Rebels series and my first Joanna Shupe novel! @peacelovebooksxo loved it and Sarah MacLean blurbed it and that’s really all I needed to know. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Kit and Alice are everything. While there is definitely some angst, these two are SO SWEET from the jump and I was living for it. I think this was my first American historical romance and it was fun to hear Shupe name drop all the famous New Yorkers of The Gilded Age. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This book was laugh out loud funny, heartfelt, and so much fun to read. I loved seeing Alice, who is super sheltered, embrace her eagerness to learn and grow in confidence. Self-worth is a huge component to both our hero and heroine’s journeys in such a lovely way. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I think this book would make a very approachable intro to historical romance if you’re unfamiliar with the genre because it leans toward the contemporary both in the language used and in the progressive views of the characters. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tropes: -the rake and the wallflower -lessons in seduction ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some of my favorite moments: -“You have me tangled up in knots.” -A Polish cook teaching Alice how to make babka! -His grinchy heart grew three sizes ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I need Nellie’s story ASAP, although I’ve already read and freaking adored Preston’s story (book 3) coming later this year, so you keep an eye out for that review! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ TW: verbal abuse, alcoholism, loss of a loved one, sexual content ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: A kindle displaying the ebook cover of The Lady Gets Lucky sits on a white shelf. I’m touching the kindle with one hand, and my lilac nail color matches the book cover. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CbaGxUCL1nK/
