The Governess Game by Tessa Dare is book two in the Girl Meets Duke series, and was a bit of a tough sell for me after The Duchess Deal. I was hooked on The Duchess Deal from the beginning, but The Governess Game took me a while to get into. It felt slow to start, and Chase’s crassness was off-putting — but it won me over in the end! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Governess Game gave me The Sound of Music vibes in a big way. Alexandra, with no experience whatsoever, ends up taking a role as a governess for two out of control children. Meanwhile, their emotionally distant guardian just wants them out his hair. Alex quickly realizes they’re in dire need of stability and affection, and they’re not the only ones. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tessa Dare clearly loves writing heroines who don’t take any of the hero’s shit, which is always a good time! Alex calls Chase out on the fact that he uses physical intimacy to distract from emotional intimacy, and encourages him to form bonds with the girls in a really sweet way. Plus we got to see Emma, Ash, Nikola, and Penny again! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ TW: loss of a loved one, PTSD, sexual content ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: I’m holding up a kindle displaying the ebook cover of The Governess Game. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CbNSN4hLFRQ/
