Duke of My Heart by Kelly Bowen is a hidden gem of historical romance that the amazing @aliciaclarereads recommended to me like a year ago and that I FINALLY picked up! This series is Scandal but make it historical and I absolutely love the premise! Book one in the series follows Ivory, a fixer who together with her employees and vast network of connections, eliminates scandal before it starts. She is contrasted with Max, a Duke/captain who is used to being the one calling the shots, but who finds himself forced to employ Ivory’s help when his sister goes missing under scandalous circumstances. The banter! Put two fiercely independent and competent alphas in a room and let them go at each other. That’s the vibe. I keep trying to decide what other fictional couples have a similar energy and I’m coming up blank! Give me your recs! The premise, setting, and characters make this story feel different from a typical historical and it was so so fun to see those dynamics upended! This was more of a slow burn than I was expecting but I really enjoyed it. I’ve already started reading the next book in the series.
