To be honest, I think I’ve read as far into LK’s backlist as I plan to (going too far back in historical romance is always a gamble) but I somehow overlooked a prequel to the Wallflowers that I absolutely wanted to pick up: Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas. Can we just talk about this stepback for a minute?! Again the Magic returns us to Stony Cross Park, and this time we get two love stories for the price of one! Sisters Aline and Livia are both grieving lost loves, but get a second chance when their brother Westcliff hosts some potential American business partners. The primary plot focuses on a second chance romance between Aline and McKenna, whose social class differences led to a devastating breakup when they were young, and whose reunion drives the story. I get why some might be frustrated with the plot, which hinges on miscommunication, but I ate it up! The secondary plot focuses on Livia, who is living on the outskirts of society after scandal and loss, only to find herself falling for Gideon, the last man in the world she should marry. Their meet cute happens to be one of my favorite things (when a couple dances together but not *at* the party). There was lots of Westcliff meddling in his sister’s lives (tbh, I would have enjoyed reading this before I read his book!) which was fun, and I loved John McKenna and Gideon Shaw so much. Glad I picked this one up. ID1: A mass market paperback copy of Again the Magic lays on a white comforter. ID2: The same book, held open to the stepback. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CtMN4vuv-5v/
