Reckless by Elsie Silver is proof that I should stop telling myself I don’t like a trope when really, I just don’t like a trope when it isn’t done well. And Elsie Silver knows how to do it well, because Winter and Theo are everything!!! I read the entirety of this book in the hammock pictured above and it was an amazing start to my summer vacation. I loved getting to see more found family in their story, with plenty of cameos from our favorite couples from previous books! The Grey’s Anatomy, Catherine Cowles, and Bridgerton references were fun, too. Winter moves to Chestnut Springs in the hope of reconciling with her estranged sister, and so much of this book is built on hope — Winter’s hope of building relationships, of starting over, of having a career outside the shadow of her mother and ex husband, and Theo’s hope of changing his playboy public image, of following in his father’s footsteps, of starting something real with Winter. Both of them are trying to grow in different ways, and I love that the surprise baby element is just one piece of that. I loved their dynamic, and the way Theo so naturally becomes the one person in Winter’s life to really show up and stand up for her. Reckless is such a lovely addition to the series (maybe my new favorite?!) and I was delighted to hear that Beau’s book is hopefully coming out later this year!
