A Notorious Vow by Joanna Shupe is another @unsuccessfulbookclub recommendation I loved (as if I doubted!) Oliver, a Deaf man fed up with society’s ableist bullshit, becomes increasingly withdrawn until meeting Christina, an incredibly shy but beautiful Englishwoman in need of rescuing from a Bad Marriage, obviously. This one gave me Queen Charlotte vibes with the brilliant, handsome, rolled shirtsleeves, let me hide from the world in my workshop MMC except, you know, less depressing! I’m a sucker for a marriage of convenience trope, and this one delivered so many great “oh no, I’m falling for my husband!” moments. The conflict in this one had my heart aching for this couple that have been through so much, and yet keep fighting for each other. After a couple Joanna Shupe books that weren’t my favorite, this one reminded me why I keep coming back to her again and again.
