Book 5 in our #NancyDrewBookCrew buddy read was The Secret of Shadow Ranch! Cowboys, phantom steeds, rock slides and more await Nancy and her friends on their first adventure outside of River Heights! Yee-haw! • While the awkward ranch-hand dialogue made me laugh, I loved getting to see a new setting and getting to meet the infamous Bess and George. We had a great chat about some of the changes that would be made to this book if it were published today (George criticizing how much Bess eats, the girls shopping for "Indian costumes"). Those elements, along with a hasty wrap up of the mystery mean this wasn't my favorite, but as always it has been fun to reread these books armed with background knowledge from Girl Sleuth by Melanie Rehak.
