*Infomercial voice* Would YOU like to feel like burning the entertainment industry or perhaps our entire patriarchal structure to the ground? Well then look no further, because I have the book for you! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In all seriousness, I think you’d have to be living under a rock to have never heard of Harvey Weinstein - and that’s because many individuals, including Ronan Farrow, worked tirelessly to make the public aware of what so many people knew, but didn’t say: that Weinstein is a serial predator. A manipulator. A gaslighter. A rapist. And, as Melissa Lonner tells Farrow, “There are more Harveys in your midst.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Perhaps the most sickening aspect of this story is that this harassment and assault was OPEN KNOWLEDGE. There were so many people who knew. Who saw things. Who heard things. And who did nothing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Catch and Kill is both a memoir of Farrow’s journey to tell this story and a powerful piece of investigative journalism, one that cries out for a better world, where people in positions of power don’t look the other way, and women can come forward and be believed instead of further traumatized. It tells a story of a man haunted by his own ghosts, determined to do better and to amplify the voices of women whose stories haven’t been heard. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Exposing Weinstein became a major catalyst of the #MeToo movement, but if there’s one thing this book makes clear (with it’s mentions of Cosby, Trump, Lauer, and more) it’s that we have so much work still to do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ TW: graphic descriptions of sexual assault and sexual harassment, stalking/surveillance ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: A hardcover copy of Catch and Kill lays on a beige ottoman.
