I’ve followed Kate Baer on Instagram for a while, so this collection of poems felt a bit like returning to a friend. Some I had seen before, while some were new to me. I love the way she tackles so many different angles of being a woman: body image, friendship, motherhood, marriage, beauty, criticism, safety, relationships, sex, anger, self...the list goes on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Even as a single, childless woman, much of what Baer writes still resonates with me. Her quiet reverence reminds me of one of my very favorite poets, Mary Oliver. Some favorites: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Moon Song My Friend Bethany Rages at the News Female Candidate It’s Like This To Take Back a Life Things My Girlfriends Teach Me 2020 For the Advice Cards at Bridal Showers New Year Dogs at the Park Stronger That You Know The Martian For My Daughter on a Bad Day ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Baer has a second book coming soon and based on her recent poems online, I know it’s going to be 🔥 via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/COITeDWryBW/
