The Book of Alchemy by Suleika Jaouad was a @clairefromonline rec that I immediately sought out because it lives at the intersection of my love of books and my love of journaling! Because I had it on loan from the library, I read it straight through and kept notes on the prompts and quotes I wanted for later, but I think readers would be better served by a slower read: treating it like a practice where you read one essay and write to one prompt each day/week/whenever. I loved that it wasn’t simply an anthology of creatives from all walks of life, but also included various vignettes from the author, whose essays and afterword stitched the whole collection together. I’ve been journaling in some form for most of my life, and The Book of Alchemy not only gives words to the why, but also provides a path for leveling up that writing!
