Surrender by Amanda Quick follows Victoria and Lucas: she’s an heiress and he’s a man in need of cash monayyy. She’s sworn that she’ll never marry and she can never find out that he is actually a fortune hunter. Also, it’s an Amanda Quick novel, so there’s a mystery involving revenge and reanimated corpses…obviously. Surrender is an early Amanda Quick book and you can tell — it’s my least fave of hers so far. Some bits did give me the ick, and I’m like wow we were really saying these things in 1990! I did get what she was trying to do with exploring the limitations of gender but I just don’t think it was executed well. Things that I did enjoy: these characters make sense together and are also fundamentally good people! I, too, would like to live like wealthy widowed Aunt Cleo who does whatever tf she wants, which as far as we can tell is primarily flirting, collecting stuff, and attending cool lectures. Speaking of which, Amanda Quick is the OG STEM romance girlie and I LOVE THAT FOR US. If you’re looking to pick up a novel of hers, might I recommend Ravished? Other historical STEM romances I adore: A Week to Be Wicked by Tessa Dare and The Countess Conspiracy by Courtney Milan! Don’t read Surrender. Read one of those instead. 🤣 📸: I’m holding up a mass market paperback copy of Surrender with one hand. Sadly my copy doesn’t have a stepback but I encourage you to google it because Pino Daeni’s art is always a trip! via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/DMAjXfdANIx/
