Long Bright River by Liz Moore has been on my TBR for ages, and after seeing the trailer for the show recently, I was inspired to finally pick it up. Told in alternating past and present timelines, the novel explores the relationship between sisters Mickey and Kasey and the effect of addiction on their divergent lives. While a tad long and drawn out, I absolutely flew through it: it definitely delivers on the psychological thriller/police procedural vibes. I found the ending to be the most masterfully written part, largely because Moore doesn’t try to wrap everything up neatly. I don’t think this novel is necessarily groundbreaking for anyone who has familiarity with the opioid crisis, but it could certainly provide an entry point for people who don’t know anything about it.
