On the spectrum from litfic to romance, Say You’ll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez feels closer to litfic, though there is an undeniable romantic plot. Samantha and Xavier’s relationship, by virtue of their long distance relationship, takes a backseat to the conflicts they face: Samantha is dealing with her mother’s dementia diagnosis and the realities of becoming your parent’s caretaker, while Xavier deals with the far reaching impacts of childhood abuse. As someone grappling with what it means to watch a parent age and what it means to be a caretaker, this book really found me at the right time. Even so, I think this book falls somewhere in the middle for me when it comes to ranking my favorites of hers. It’s the final day of National Library Week so shoutout to my library for allowing me to access this new release and many others! Libraries provide essential services in our communities and we should support them however we can. 📸: I’m holding up a kindle displaying the ebook cover of Say You’ll Remember Me with one hand.
